Bronce y piedra

British, born 1949 in Urambo, Tanzania, East Africa.

First influenced by her art-teacher while at the Kenya high (boarding school), taking art as a final subject.

Left Africa straight after her finals, degree work acquired for private collection of Jomo Kenyatta (first president of Kenya after independence) and had been granted a scolarship to go to art college in England. However ended up going to Nottingham and trained as a nurse.

Left for Holland 3 years later, continuing her interest in fine art as part-time activity. Continued with numerous workshops and intense courses, “Vrije Academie”, in pottery and sculpture.

Under the guidance of Karel Gomez, a well known sculptor in Holland, she took part in several exhibitions, formed her own art studio for other artists, organized exhibits and taught sculpture.

Now living in Spain where she once again teaches sculpture in stone/clay.

Working with bronze, stone and clay, stone has her preference. The rough structure and natural colours, working with raw materials, creating the soft forms of the human figure, are what inspires her.

Recibió su primera inspiración de su maestro de bellas artes cuando estaba en el internado secundario de Kenya, estudiando bellas artes como asignatura final.

Salió de África en sequida después de sus exámenes finales, consiguió trabajo de licenciatura en la colección particular de Jomo Kenyatta (primer presidente de Kenya tras la independencia) y habia ganado una beca para ir a una escuela de bellas artes en Inglaterra. Sin embargo acabó yendo a Nottingham para formación profesional de enfermeria.

Salió para Holanda 3 años más tarde, prosiguiendo su interés por las bellas artes como una actividad de parte de su tiempo. Siguió asistiendo a varios talleres y cursos intensivos, “Vrije Academie”, de cerámica y escultura.

Bajo la dirección de Karel Gómez, un escultor bien conocido en Holanda, participó en varias exposiciones, creó su propio estudio de arte para otros artistas, organizó objetos para exponer y enseño escultura.

Ahora vive en España donde otra vez enseña escultura de piedra/arcilla.

Trabajando con bronce, piedra y arcilla, prefiere piedra. La estructura bruta y los colores naturales, el trabajo con materias primas, la creación de las formas suaves de la figura humana, aquéllos son los que la inspiran.
